Our Mission in Australia

 Our mission is to equip African refugees with knowledge to help them navigate life in Australia while preserving their faith, culture, and identity. We provide awareness training on key issues affecting African communities, particularly in the areas of:

• Mental health and youth challenges
• Civic education and political participation
• Legal requirements for religious leaders
• Domestic violence awareness and child protection

Through education and collaboration, we aim to strengthen African refugee communities and their churches, ensuring they are well-informed, engaged, and empowered.

 1. Culturally Appropriate African Youth Mental Health Awareness & Education

African refugee youth in Australia face unique challenges, including:

• Mental health stigma within the community.
• Substance abuse and drug addiction leading to incarceration.
• Gang involvement and crime, resulting in high jail rates.
• Pressure from cultural expectations and family breakdown.

Our Initiative:
- Deliver mental health education workshops in African churches to break stigma and provide

culturally relevant resources.
- Partner with mental health professionals who understand African cultural perspectives.
- Educate parents and church leaders on early signs of mental health struggles and intervention strategies.
- Provide mentorship programs for at-risk youth. 

 2. African Refugee Election Education Program

Many African refugees lack knowledge of Australia’s political system, which limits their participation in elections and civic engagement. Misinformation is common, leading to low voter turnout and disengagement.

Our Initiative:
Conduct community workshops on voter education to help African refugees understand:

• The importance of voting and how to register.
• The roles of government and how policies impact refugees.
• The rights and responsibilities of citizens in a democracy. 

Work with electoral commissions and local councils to increase African voter participation.

 3. Educating Former Refugee Church Leaders on Legal Requirements

Many African pastors and church leaders are unaware of Australian laws regarding religious activities, child protection, and domestic violence. This lack of awareness can lead to legal risks for churches.

Our Initiative:

• 
  Train church leaders on child protection laws to ensure that African churches create safe environments for children.
• Provide domestic violence awareness education, highlighting the role of the church in supporting victims and reporting abuse.
• Educate leaders on tax compliance, governance, and non-profit laws in Australia.
• Partner with legal experts and advocacy groups to provide free training and legal resources to African churches.

 4. Partnerships & Collaboration

To effectively implement these initiatives, Veritas Gospel will partner with organizations that share our goals, including:
